Martindaled in Lions Head (Is that a word?)
The Lakers dropped a very back and forth game 5-4 with the Bruce Peninsula Wild last Wednesday in Lions Head. Lakers had a very solid performance, but Mike Martindale of the Wild had an incredible night with four goals, and a confident helper on the fifth goal.
Mike Martindale opened the scoring for the Wild 12:09 into the first period when he beat netminder David Whyte with a hard shot from the left faceoff dot. That would be the only goal for the first period.
Dakota Simkins would tie the game at one, just 35 seconds into the second period with a great move in tight when he broke in all alone.
Martindale would regain the lead just 2 minutes and 38 second later, with a goal from the same spot and angle as his first.
Again, the Lakers would fight back to tie the game when Ian Klages scored at the 6:44 mark of the second. Like I said, a real back and forth game.
However, the Lakers went to the dressing room down 3-2 when, guess who, Martindale scored with 3:07 left in the second period.
The Lakers would, once again, tie the game up when Dan McIvor found the back of the net just 2 minutes and 34 seconds into the third.
Just 1 minute and 14 seconds later, Martindale would penetrate the Lakers zone but Whyte would deny him his fourth straight goal. However, Tyler Williamson was right on the doorstep to bang home the rebound. This would put the Wild up 4-3 at this point. Bruce Peninsula would never trail, but also never get ahead by more than one goal.
That being said, Dan McIvor would again tie the game 4-4, at 6:59 of the third period.
Martindale would put the Wild ahead for good, 2 minutes and 17 seconds later, and hold on to the 5-4 win.
All and all, a great effort from our Lakers. They came up against a hot hand, but never gave up the fight!!!
