Lakers Sweep Bruce Peninsula - Now Back In The Hunt
The Lakers - Midget Rep - completed a home and home sweep of the Bruce Peninsula Wild last night, with a convincing 4-1 victory. These 4 points have vaulted the Lakers back in the running towards advancement from the WOAA Twolan Championship qualifying round robin. The Lakers had found themselves in a bit of a hole, after dropping their first two games to the Ripley Wolves, in what was incredible drama ending both of these games by one goal!!!

Following is a summary of the four games played so far, with two to go against the Saugeen AE squad.

March 10th
The Lakers were home to the visiting Bruce Peninsula Wild for game two of their home and home. This was a really fast paced, hard fought game, and the Lakers pulled thru with a convincing 4-1 victory.

After a scoreless first period, Liam McIvor opened the scoring 4:30 into the second period. Just 6 seconds later, Dakota Simkins gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead. Aiden Barfoot would pop one with just 1:41 left in the second, to send the teams to their rooms during the flood with the Lakers up 3-0.

It would take until the last two minutes of the game for another goal. Mitch Donais would seal the deal with the Wild net empty, and only 1:47 left.

The Wild would break David Whyte's shut out, and only blemish on an absolutely fantastic game from Whyte, when Michael Martindale would score with their net still empty and only 1:05 left in the game.

March 7th
The Lakers were in Wiarton for game one of their home and home with the Bruce Peninsula Wild. The Lakers would pull out a squeaker, and walk away with a 4-3 victory. Connor Kelly opened the scoring for the Lakers just 1:04 into the first.

The Wild would tie the game 51 seconds later with a goal from Graeme George.  However, Jordan Proctor would give the Lakers back the lead at 2-1, 13:10 into the first period.

The Wild would add two more before the flood from Micheal Given and Michael Martindale, giving the Wild a 3-2 lead after two.

The Lakers came out in the third and showed they were not ready to quit. Connor Kelly would get his second of the game 3:03 into the third frame, and Riley Field would notch the game winner at the 5:29 mark.
The Lakers would hold on for 9:31, with some help from netminder David Whyte.

March 6th
The Lakers squad were in Ripley for a tilt this Sunday afternoon. Just an incredibly fast and clean hockey game, would slip away from the Lakers by a score of 1-0.

The only goal was scored as a result of a turn over in our end, followed by a very peculiar bounce in front of David Whyte. This came 3:36 into the third period, when Cody Dewar stuffed in the bouncing puck at the side of the net.

The game saw only one two minute penalty, taken by the Wolves half way thru the third period. I actually saw the officiating staff applauding all the players on our squad, as they left the ice after the game.

March 3rd
Our round robin opener was at home, but the Lakers would lose this one in overtime by a score of 2-1. Ernie MacDonnell would give the Lakers the lead, just 1 minute and 2 seconds into the second period.

However, Ripley's Kenny Harris would tie the game with their net empty, and just 1 second left on the clock. Heartbreaker!!!! Worse yet, the Wolves would score the overtime winner at the 3:48 mark of the overtime period.
A couple of suspect calls, in what was a very clean game, left MacDonnell, and Ripley's captain Wade Armstrong, suspended for game two. There was only three penalties in total!!!!

Two big games left in this series Lakers, go get 'em!!!!!!!!
