It's Called Playing with "Hart".......

Our goaltender, Lander Hartley, plays hockey with heart, and it seems to be contagious amongst his teammates.  That team work, determination and heart provided for the winning recipe for the Atom LL #2 team in the Shallow Lake Atom LL Tournament held this past Saturday.  Congratulations to the entire team (we missed you Ella)!

Our road to get there:

It was an early rise and shine day for our hockey players to be on the ice for 8:00 a.m.  But, as history continues to repeat itself, the battle of Shallow Lake was a game that certainly did not disappoint!  With a low scoring game (1-0) well into the third period in favour of the Atom LL #1 team, Spencer Davidson saved the game by scoring with less than 2 minutes left in the third period.  With that goal, we were headed to a shootout.  Thanks to our shooters, Jake Ross, Spencer Davidson and Zach Palmer.  Jake's goal was the lone goal of the Shootout (which goes to show how well these teams are so evenly matched).  Congrats to both teams for a game well played!

Continuing on to Game #2 against Shelburne:

It was the Palmer show for sure!  James Palmer had the game opening goal and went on to score a hat trick along with his teammate, Jake Ross.  Zach Palmer added a single goal in the third period.  Shelburne was able to score 2 goals, but did not come close to the skill and determination our hockey players displayed in that game.  Congrats to the entire team for a well-deserved win!

Championship Game:

It once again came down to the battle of Shallow Lake for the championship game.  As luck would have it and as many might have guessed, the first two periods of the game were scoreless.  With the excitement building and everyone on the edge of their seats, Jake Ross opened the scoring in the third period.  Within minutes, the Atom LL #1 team relied with a goal of their own.  With three minutes, 38 seconds to go (we have to be exact!), Jake got his second goal of the game.  With three minutes, 21 seconds to go, the Atom LL #1 team scored again.  It was amazing to watch this game unfold!  Jake was able to  find the net again with 32 seconds to go, putting our team ahead by a 1 goal lead.  We all knew this game could go either way and finally ended with our team on top by a score of 3-2.  Lander Hartley did an amazing job in net!!  We couldn't have done it without you Lander!!  What an amazing job by both teams!  It was a pleasure to watch!

What a special birthday gift for Logan.  Happy Birthday Logan!

Special thanks to Peggy Jones for running a super tournament, our excellent coaching staff, Rich Ross for filling in as Trainer at the last minute and Kirsten Ross for helping co-ordinate Jerseys.  Also thanks to everyone who provided baked goods for the lunch tables.

The Win:

It may have been the black jerseys; it may have been the worry stone; it may have been the fudge, or it may have been a great team, lead by a supportive coaching staff and their hockey team playing with "Hart".
