Penetang Tournament "D" Champions!!
The Mastersworkbench Atom LL #2 Lakers travelled to Penetang to take part in the Winterama Atom LL Hockey Tournament on February 15, 2014.

What a great way to build team spirit and friendships!  We were able to have our entire team participate in this tournament, which was amazing!

Game #1 vs Lincoln at 10:30 AM:

If you can indulge me (and memory serves me correct), our first game against Lincoln set the pace for a great day of hockey.  Sorry, my scoresheet is for this game is missing, however the entire team played amazing and with full team effort!  The game ended 4-4 in regulation time.  Shoot-out ensued and unfortunately, Lincoln came out 1-0 in the shootout.  Thanks to our shooters, Jake Ross, Spencer Davidson and Tyler McKee.  Our team walked away knowing they played a fantastic game against an unknown team!

Game #2 vs Ennismore at 2:30 PM:

The team might have exhausted too much energy in the pool (never a bad thing I don't think), but unfortunately were not playing at full speed and lost to a once again unknown Ennismore team by a score of 6-3.  To quote Lander "I have never been pulled with 7 minutes left before!".  But, funny, how much we forget that "older means wiser" and our more than competent coaching staff made the correct call, as our team followed that up with a goal in the 3rd period!  Our scorers were Zach Palmer (unassisted in the first period); Jake Ross (assisted by Shake and Bake Teammate Spencer Davidson) in the 2nd period and Shake and Bake added another goal and assist in the 3rd period.  The teammates came off the ice frustrated, however handled the loss like great team players.  You know how good a team you have when they can lose with professionalism :)

Game #3 "D" Championship vs Zurich at 5:00 PM:

With 3/4 of an hour to go until prep for the championship game, our Lakers chose to (this is hard to believe), eat and watch more hockey!  It was interesting to watch these young players prepare for their final "D" championship game.  Turning 2 losses into a positive attitude was hard and I believe we should all be proud of our hockey players in their preparation tactics for the last and final game of the tournament.  What they didn't know was how proud we all would have been whether they won or lost!

The game was a real collaboration of great hockey players and lots of teamwork!

Sam Standoloft led the attack with two (2) goals in the first period (first one unassisted and second one assisted by Bennett Lines).

The 2nd period remained scoreless......

The determination in the 3rd period shone through with goals scored by Jake Ross, assisted by Meghan Prentice; Spencer Davidson, unassisted and Meghan Prentice, assisted by her linemates, Jake and Spencer.

Josh Cassidy played an amazing championship game in the search for his first goal.....it will happen soon Josh!!

Congratulations to the entire team and the coaching staff!  What a great final game and "D" Championship for The Mastersworkbench Atom LL #2 team!

The weekend was full of hockey, swimming, manhunt, potluck supper Saturday and much much more!

Thank you for Kim Mizen for organizing the potluck and to all those who cleaned up the room :)

As adults, we understand that memories are a huge part of life's journey.  Thank you for finding the time to guide these young kids to experience the game of hockey, make life-lasting friendships and allowing them to reach their own full potential, while at the same time having the best time of their lives :)  Oh yes, fudge helps too!
