Lakers give #1 team South Bruce a good run
Lakers end regular season on a positive note.
If theres one team that you would want to play before heading into playoffs it would have to be the very skilled and shifty squad from South Bruce, a challenge that the boys were ready for.
South Bruce just recently captured the "C" championship in Silverstick play in Kincardine, and followed that up with a semi-final showing in the International Silverstick held in Forest this past weekend, so the State Farm Insurance Peewee Reps sponsored by Bruce Boivin knew they would have their hands full, but for the most part the Lakers played the kind of hockey necessary before entering the OMHA playdowns.
After spotting South Bruce a 2-0 lead in the first period the Lakers replied with 3 unanswered tallies in the second off the tape of Marshall Hickson, Terran Hooey and Colin Kitto. Assists went out to Kitto, Cole Waddell and Hickson.
Confident and eager heading into the 3rd frame the Lakers were issued their first penalty of the game just 24 seconds in, and 32 seconds later it was 3-3. South Bruce would rally to score two more times for a 5-3 victory.
However, it was indicative that the Lakers elevated their play, outshooting their opponent for the 1st half of the game, battled hard along the wall and did alot of little things correct.
A great game all the way around for the boys, finishing up regular season play with a 8-6-2 record.
The Lakers now await the winner of the Bruce Pen/TCDMHA series before starting their 1st round of OMHA playdowns.
