Bantam Rep Open Up Season
Bantam Rep lose home opener in tough fashion.
It was "game on" for the Bantam Rep team this past Thursday night as they kicked off their season at home with a tilt against the visiting Arthur Vipers.
This years Lakers squad features 7 rookies in the starting lineup in a cast of 10 skaters. They certainly showed they can hold their own in exhibition play and proved once again in the season opener they are up to the challenge.
It was a little bit of a shaky start against the Vipers as some nerves seem to creep in early, but as the dust settled and both teams got relaxed the play picked up quite a bit as the contest went on.
Luke Grimoldby and Zac Taylor notched a pair of single tallies as the Lakers found themselves deadlocked after 2 periods with Arthur at 2-2. With a 3-2 lead after a Matthew Lawrence tally the Lakers were presented with a 5 on 3 opportunity, ringing one off the post from Grimoldby and one off the crossbar from Kurtis Smith, but nothing found the back of the net.
It certainly was a momentum swing as the Vipers rallied with 2 quick goals late in the game and stole a 4-3 victory away from the Lakers.
A little sloppy play defensively at times from both teams, but the pace was extremely fast throughout and had a playoff like atmosphere.
A great game overall from both teams to kick off the season !!!
