Tournament Champions!!!!!
The Shallow Lake "Lakers" brought home Gold Saturday in Palmerston, at the Midget Rep - Minto Minor Hockey Annual Tournament.
Two very convincing victories throughout the day would match the Lakers in the champioship game, with the one team that had beat them this season. The Lakers would win that championship game 4-0 over the Lucknow Sepoys.
The championship game was nothing but heart and determination!!! You could literally feel the determination from everyone of the 12 kids. The Lakers opened the scoring three minutes in, when Ernie MacDonnell would cash in a penalty shot opportunity. Ernie would get two more, and Ryan Bisson scored the games second goal.
Jed Nuttall was fantastic in net, posting his second shut-out of the tournament. As a matter of fact, Jed only gave up one goal in three games, which is a real testament to how extremely well every Laker on the ice played!!!!! Great job everyone!!
Another motivating factor going into the championship game, was the fact that team mate Tye Martin was taken to the hospital following the second game. Tye was injured in that second game, and was taken for medical attention. He played two periods injured, before showing signs that the injury was more severe than first anticipated. One tough kid! Hope all is good Tye, get well soon!!!
The road to the championship opened with a 10-0 victory over Dundalk in Game # 1. Goals in the Dundalk game came from Ernie MacDonnell with 5, Luke Heathers with 2, and singles from Jordan Proctor, Kory Brady, and Dakota Simkins. Jed Nuttall posting the shut-out.
The Game # 2 qualifier set Burford as the opponent, and the Lakers would win 4-1, giving up their only goal of the entire tournament. Cole Ouwendyk would score twice, with Riley Field and Ernie adding singles.
