The Shouldice Designer Stone Shallow Lake Laker Peewee Rep
team came off a great win in the Shallow Lake tournament a couple weeks ago and
travelled south to Simcoe this weekend for the Boston Pizza Tyler Norrie Memorial
Tournament.
The Lakers started out strong on Friday night with a 4-1 win against Wallaceburg. Goals were scored by Ben Shouldice, Gavin Gibbons (2) and Aidan Christie and assisted by Anderson Kivell, Aidan Christie, Ben Shouldice and Gavin Gibbons. The Lakers then faced the home team on Saturday morning, where they took a 3-0 hit despite a great effort by all. After a re-energizing lunch, the team made Shouldice Designer Stone proud with a 6-1 win (despite an unfortunate goal in the wrong net and some trouble from “hot pants”!). Kurt Indoe started the game off right with a goal assisted by Gavin Gibbons. Darryl Blair then added 2 and Spencer Davidson, Gavin Gibbons and Josh Devries each added singles with assists going to Cole Deiter, Ben Shouldice, Kurt Indoe and Darryl Blair.
The Lakers had a good night’s sleep Saturday night and came out swinging in the semi-finals Sunday morning where they faced Wallaceburg again. Darryl Blair, Ben Shouldice and Cole Deiter were a force to be reckoned with in the first period. Darryl Blair found the back of the net twice right off the face off with assists by Ben Shouldice and Cole Deiter. Wallaceburg came alive after that with a goal at the end of the first period, but the Laker’s fought hard to hold them off and earned their way into the championship game on Sunday afternoon.
The Lakers faced Simcoe again in the final game where they went down by 2 goals in the first period. Aidan Christie answered the call with a goal assisted by Gavin Gibbons early in the second. In the end, despite some great teamwork, the Lakers finished the tournament in second place after a 4-1 loss to the tournament’s home team.
Thanks to Lander Hartley and Jesse Cunningham for backing up your teammates in net!
Great job Shouldice Designer Stone Peewee Rep Lakers! You battled hard and made your coaches, teammates and parents proud!
