Things got off to a slow start for the Lakers, giving up
three early goals, and finding themselves with a 3-0 deficit after the first
period.
The second period was a different story, with the Lakers finally hitting the scoreboard on a goal from Deegan Bermanschlager, assisted by Kyler Bartlett. Two minutes later, Reed Macwilliam scored, with assists from Josh Davenport and Davis Roebuck. The Lakers tied it up shortly after, when Brady Snow put home a rebound off the stick of Roebuck. Drayton was not going down without a fight though, scoring with less than a minute left in the second to take a 4-3 lead to the third.
The Lakers were not to be denied, with Bartlett finding the back of the net halfway through the third to knot things up at 4. The rest of the third was filled with end-to-end action, with both goalies making some fantastic saves. Off to overtime we go.
It didn’t take long for the Lakers to end it in overtime, with Zach Cosgrove putting home the championship goal. Congratulations to all the players and coaches, and thanks to all of the fans who have supported this team all season.
Next up, the team will travel to Windsor for the OMHA championship tournament from April 8-10.
Good Luck Lakers!
