The Dallas Stars announced Sauble Beach native Lane MacDermid has signed a 1 year contract.
Lane, who played 2 & 1/2 years with the Owen Sound Attack was acquired by Dallas from the Boston Bruins along with forward Cody Payne and a first-round pick in this year's Draft (which they used to select Jason Dickinson) in exchange for forward Jaromir Jagr
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound forward skated in six games for Dallas during the 2012-13 season, posting two goals, nine penalty minutes and three shots. He scored his first career NHL goal on April 3 against the Anaheim Ducks, 31 years to the date that Lane's father, Paul MacDermid, scored his first NHL goal. The two became the second father-son tandem in NHL history to each record their first career goals on the same day, joining Peanuts and Gerry O'Flaherty, who accomplished the feat on Nov. 3, 1940 and 1972.
He skated in 37 contests for the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League (AHL) last season, recording six points (4G-2A), including two shorthanded tallies and 82 penalty minutes. He was Boston's fourth round selection (112th overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft.
Lane is a graduate of Shallow Lake Minor Hockey.
Congratulations from all of us at SLMHA.
