Juvenile Hockey "The Last Dance"
After a long hiatus, we are happy to announce Juvenile hockey is back in Shallow Lake! I'm not going to lie; writing that isn't something I thought I would say even a month ago. But they say nothing worth doing is easy, And with that said, the team's goal for this season is to have the most exciting team on the ice in Shallow Lake. And ultimately capturing an OMHA Championship for these guys on their "Last Dance".
What is "The Last Dance"? Besides a fantastic sports documentary on the 1990s, Chicago Bull's sheer dominance led by Micheal Jordan and Scottie Pippen and company. That I recommend anyone reading watch. "The Last Dance", in this case, is for the players on this team who very well might be their last year playing competitive hockey in their lives. Sure, you can still play beer league, but anyone can tell you that's not the same.
You lose that competitiveness that we as hockey players are accustomed to playing this level of hockey and the sense of camaraderie you develop over the season with your teammates and coaches. You miss that nervousness before games, heading to the rink feeling like you are ready for war with your teammates. You are wondering how this game will go and how you can make a difference by playing your role to help your team win.
Ultimately this team is talented enough to go all the way and win everything if they are willing to put the team before themselves in an age group known for short tempers and high emotions. Suppose this group buys into the mentality of putting the team before themselves. Hold each other accountable on and off the ice. And are prepared to be uncomfortable with being challenged by the Coaching Staff day in and day out to be better and not just content with going through the motions. To win in this age group, every player has to have enough discipline and the mentality of "taking one for the team" if possible. Whether that be drawing penalties by not reacting to opposing players trying to engage them. Or by taking a slash to the chops and drawing a penalty that leads to a power play. We can have it all if we can buy into that mentality this season. They must be willing to sacrifice, work hard, and always have a team-first mentality.
So anyone reading this, all I have to ask is, are you ready for the most exciting season of hockey Shallow Lake has seen in a very long time? If the answer is yes, I will see you each home game packing the stands like it's already playoffs watching where this season will take us.
