Initiation Program
Initiation and Tyke Hockey is undergoing big changes for this hockey season.

All Hockey at these age groups is now mandated to play half Ice (cross ice) games in any formats including tournaments.  This means no referees, no game sheet and no winner.  Fun, skill based development at this age group is the direction minor hockey is going.

For this season Shallow Lake will have no Tyke division.

Initiation groups are split solely by random.  Shallow Lake has adopted a split to be unbiased and based on birthdate as in 2018 the 5 & 6 year olds play together. Please don’t request an ice time change as this is hockey and you have to deal with what is dealt for IP and beyond in all groups.

Skill level or years on the ice has no bearing on the program your child is in. They will be run the same programs.

In 2018-2019 SL is aiming to adopt the Novice single year program as well, which would leave all 7 year olds in Tyke hockey and run Novice as a single year (8 year old) program.

Finally, no 4 year olds would be taken for 2018-2019 season.  4 year olds cannot be rostered for any team.  This means come tournament time (yes they are cross ice too) the 4 year olds (still 4 January 1st) are ineligible to play.
