Lakers eliminated from OMHA playdowns
Ice Dogs goaltender Lawson Cumming deserves huge recognition for his play in his teams ousting of the Lakers.
Anyone who took in this great series witnessed a great young goaltender from Arran-Elderslie spark his team to a series defeat of the Shallow Lake Lakers in round # 2 of the OMHA "DD" playdowns.
In this spectators view, Cumming earned MVP rights of the series, but his team deserves full marks for coming to his aid quite a few times, while capitalizing on odd man rushes down the ice.
This all took place of course in game # 5 on Saturday afternoon in Shallow Lake, where the Lakers may have not played their best game of the series, but still controlled the play for the most part.
Heading into the 3rd period with the score deadlocked at one, speedy AE winger Mason Hanna would break the tie with a nice shot past Laker keeper Cameron Lessard at the 11:49 mark. Shallow Lake did everything they could do to slip one past the hot goaltender of Arran-Elderslie in the last 3 minutes of play, but no luck ! AE would add a empty netter with 1:25 left to end the Lakers hopes and skate away with a 3-1 victory.
There was nothing else you could ask for from a Lakers team that absolutely gave everything they had, from start to finish.
Arran-Elderslie players and coaches were a fantastic group to play against, despite some unnecessary vocal chirps from a few bystanders in the crowd. Its an emotional game sometimes, but one verbal slur can certainly dampen the emotions of such a great series of hockey.
The very best of luck to AE as they now move on to face Flesherton in round # 3.
